When I first returned on line nearly two years ago after years of absence I was told that a Twitter and Facebook account were a must-have if you plan to market your books. But here I’m nearly two years later, things have left me wondering does either really works for book marketing?
I think they both does if your books are geared toward the under twenty five generation. If not, I don’t think neither does very much for your books. From my experience, I am finding you have to find a social network that has readers more interested in your specific genre not simply because it’s the most popular one out there.
In my genre, I have found many more options that works for it far better than Facebook and Twitter. My links are all over the Internet but very few has come from a Twitter retweet or a Facebook sharing. Surprisingly, most (90%) comes from other places other than Facebook or Twitter.
I think it all depends on what genre you are writing in rather they works for you. If you are writing children and young adult books yes, they both works well but that’s not my genre so I had to research and learn what else was out there.
Some suggested I change the genre to young adult but that’s impossible for most of the series were written before there was a Twitter or Facebook.

The ideas of the book come from classic literature such as whose work greatly influence the world world such as Homer, Sophocles, Herodotus, Euripides, Socrates, Hippocrates, Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle and many more. The "Book of Enoch" influenced the usage of Azazael as a main character and love interest. I created the primary main character from the Chronicle of Saints. I wanted to show them as real flesh and blood with thoughts, desires and yearning as any human. Not as they are so often depicted. So I created one of my own to show her as a real human that everyone can relate to.

The Novel: UnHoly Pursuit: Devil on my Trail 
I mentioned this not because I have anything against either of these sites nor does I intent to stop using them. I mentioned it because all authors are pressed for time and do not have enough hours in the day to spend a lot of time on social media and write. Therefore you needs to look at what’s working for you and your books not what all the talking heads are saying. When marketing you have to look at what you are marketing and to whom you are marketing to. What may work for one author may not work for you. For example it’s said that posts could be short and filled with lots of videos and pictures. My readers don’t like a lot of pictures. They say it’s an insult to their intelligent to think they can’t read two sentences without a picture telling them what I’m saying. So I met their demand by going into greater details of what I’m talking about for they’ll definitely write and ask me to explain some thing if a post is too short and they feel I’m holding back or summarizing information. LOL!

Alma books like yours aren’t going to do well among people who have no life experience. Primarily what’s on Twitter are celebrity lovers, kids and people who love gossipy news.

I’ve tried a little bit of everything from local book clubs to book store signings. I carry my cards around and introduce people to my work by giving them a card. By many of my readers aren’t Americans, but are in other countries I sometime use foreign sites like Netlog, and someone invited me to a site called iWiW but can’t remember did I ever sign up or not. LOL! My kids put my work out on Instagram. It generates a large viewing. It hard to say exactly were the interest comes from but I know it didn’t increase until I started looking at other avenues besides Facebook and Twitter.
Perhaps it’s because I got started off line as to why I still do better offline. I don’t know but I seem able to talk people face to face into looking at the book better than online. Maybe it’s a generational thing. 🙂
