Whether your fantasy world is earthy, sci-fi or otherworldly world building is very important in any Fantasy Novel. It gives the reader a clear idea of your character’s, environment and the world they lives in and how they interact with others. It doesn’t always have to be a wholly invented world. It can be your own addition to the real world. Places that do not exist or fictional usage of place that does exist. The material use in building a world tells a lot about the characters. It’s tell a lot about their society. What kind of people are they. Whether they’re wealthy, poor, combative, placid, it all can depicted in the world building. When one isn’t good at drawing you have to depend upon others. I was sent this today for an inspection to see if it was going along the image I had in mind. The artists said they aren’t finish yet. But I think she did a marvelous job. Even down to the great central sandstone castle and the surrounding castles of nobility and neighborhood of the next class. Norshires doesn’t look exactly the same in this era as it does in Queen Erin, Tearleach and etc from “King Eocaidh the Horse Warrior.” This is Norshires in the days of giant deer and bears. Shortly after the last Ice Age. The artist captured the true essence of the place. I didn’t want it completely like a medieval styled castle because Norshires long predates the Middle Ages by thousands of years. It was more of a city nation or city state like Athens and Sparta.
I can see farms, lakes, or loch if you prefer. There are trees, fields, ponds, the ocean to the right and even the legendary tree with the golden apples right outside the door.
I can get a good visual image of Norshires from the drawing. The kingdom is nestled in between a river and mountains and to the east there’s a cliff and waterfall. It’s had castles inside the walls. That’s an unusual take. Most castles have their own individual walls but I see several behind the main castle. I can see the farms, lakes and trees outside and some inside the massive walls. It’s more like a Greece city-state. Whomever drew this did a good job. It looks finished to me.

I can see this turning into a well planned mythological kingdom. The colors let a reader know exactly what is what. Tell your artist thanks for not using the traditional dead black and gray shades used in map drawing and drawing actual mountains.

Isn’t Norshires the kingdom in the book about the huge horse and the ancient king riding it? Love the drawing.
