The Tree is a heart-wrenching, gripping Southern Gothic novel set in the distant future. It’s a tale of a little girl growing up in a haunted house with the ability to see what’s truly there. The accounts of the hauntings are disturbing and turns deadly very quickly. On several occasions little Ana’s life is endangered. The incident that takes place at the lake behind the house is horrifying to the senses. The little girl’s courage and bravery is something to be commended. I rooted for her throughout the book. The closest book I have read to this is “Beasts of the Southern Wild “made into an acclaimed movie starring six-year-old Hushpuppy played by (QuvenzhanéWallis)y. Ana’s parents are vastly different than Hushpuppy’s. They helped their little girl form a unified front against the evil after her. It’s a triumphing story of love, bravery and the will to continue to fight for generations against all odds. However, like any family, the BuFayes have their faults which are many but when comes time to stand behind little Ana, her family stands firmly behind her with her odd supernatural accounts, premonitions and all. Read it with the lights on.~
