I believe the public sees it as being devalued work. When my first book came in 2016. Upon seeing so many suggestions I asked my publisher about listing the book for a .99 and they flat out said “NO! Everyone will wonder what’s wrong with an 800 page book coming out for .99? Citing this worked to attract readers years ago when Ebooks were a new novelty but now there are thousands of .99 books out there. It’s better to offer a limited time giveaway than to permanently list a huge book for .99 cents”
They explained that books of 100-150 pages aren’t scrutinized so much if listed for .99 cents as big books are. That the higher the page count goes, the more the book is going to cost because it was more expensive to produce.
Price is an important when deciding to list your books. I read once you start listing them at such low rate it is difficult to move to a higher price.
