I intend to get a copy of this book when it’s published. One chapter made me think long and hard. Rachel Hightower talked about the deadly climate of America today. She traced it all back to how this country was built. According to Ms. Hightower the Civil War would have propelled this country to a new height had those who lost the war been able to look ahead instead of instilling a system called Jim Crow and the lost who won sit back and allowed them to do. She says all the ills we see today can be traced back to what happened nearing four hundred years ago.
“A nation built on the back of indentured servants, slavery, selected privileges, murders, terrorizing, massacres, and invasions can not find peace or safety within its citizenship until it’s willing to confront its past, acknowledge it. Stop pretending everything is fine when it isn’t. Until it makes amends with it’s past nothing will change.”
I thought about that quote from “Girl Child in The UnPromised Land” when I saw on the news about the synoggue shooting last Saturday. The same thing happened a few years earlier at a church called Emmanuel A.M.E. Church, Charleston, SC
It’s sad one of the most visited links on my blog is about the first mass school shooting.
