Today is December 7, and 77 years ago an American Navy based was bombed and over 2,000 men lost their lives. Our navy was severely damaged. President Roosevelt declared it a date which will live in infamy.
It was also a day many boys became a man.
Many states lost their home navy ship. Parts and pieces of these sunken ships were used to build the USS Enterprise. I know there are supposedly several ships to wears the name but I am talking about the on that was built after Pearl Harbor and at the battle of Coral Sea.
No, not Captain Kirk’s Enterprise. The WWII battle ship which the Starship Enterprise was named for. At the time it was the largest of it kind.
I know we don’t give this date much thought in the age of technology. We feel we are invincible, hipper, chicer. More tolerance. Wiser than those in 1941.
But are we?
But we owe our entire way of life to these people. Had they lost most of us wouldn’t be here. That’s why I take out every year to tell them “Thank you.”
The link leads to the speech itself.
As you can see from Roosevelts speech Japan was very busy the night of December 6, 1941
