Once a year I select a piece of fashion I find interesting. I came across this Gucci skirt. The cotton print tier skirt makes a comeback every decade. Well, every decade since I’ve been around.
I think what caught my attention most about the skirt is that the debut displaying was in a grave yard. The Alyscamps.
The Alyscamps is a large Roman necropolis, found around the 2nd century A.D. It is a short distance outside the walls of the old town of Arles, France. It was one of the most famous necropolises of the ancient world. The name comes from the Provençal Occitan word Aliscamps, which comes from the Latin Elisii Campi. I am aware it is supposed to be a good place for masterpieces to be created.
Some say the place is peaceful and tranquil, despite the fact the ancient Romans crucified people and some of their crucified victims are buried there.
Tiered printed cotton maxi skirt
Gucci held its Resort ’19 show at the Roman burial ground of Alyscamps, and we can’t think of anywhere better for Alessandro Michele to present his eclectic vision. This romantic maxi skirt is made from patchwork cotton printed with varying floral patterns and tiered for volume. Take styling cues from the runway and pair it with the skirt.
