Children of a Lesser God is a play written by Mark Medoff
The title comes from Idylls of the King written by Alfred, Lord Tennyson– Children of a lesser god refers to people who are thought to be inferior to others. The main character in the story is deaf.
Idylls of the King, published between 1859 and 1885, is a cycle of twelve narrative poems by the English poet Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809–1892; Poet Laureate from 1850) which retells the legend of King Arthur, his knights, his love for Guinevere and her tragic betrayal of him, and the rise and fall of Arthur’s kingdom.
In the original context from Idylls of the King, it refers to a world that is inferior — how war has made things worse than they should be.
There’s the ancient belief in some cultures that people who suffers an affliction was created by a less powerful god than those who do not.
Too often people do not bother to learn what its like to walk into someone’s else shoes. They paint all disabilities with a single brush.
