Lip Readers And The Hearing Impaired In The New Normal.

Some years ago, I wrote an article telling my readers about my best friend who is a hearing impaired individual. I hope people realize that this new normal carries a tremendous strain, tensity, and exhaustion with this community. A community that often rely on visual to understand what a speaker is saying; Or in order to know what’s going around them. All aren’t like the characters in “The Children Of The Lesser Gods,” expert users of sign language.

Most are lip readers and being in the public in the new normal is particularly taxing for them now that everyone must keep their mouth covered they can’t read people’s lips.

Most deaf or hearing impaired persons are fiercely independent and are having to depend upon family and friends to do things they normally do for themselves. Despite, what’s shown about this community and how well they supposedly cope with this hindrance. Public officials are way behind in providing what they need. Most do not efficient ways to communicate with the public.

Most do not have TTY phones. Most communicate by text and all businesses do not accept text communications. One must call in to order a meal.

My friend said that most are able to function by before hand assumption of a person’s actions.  But the guessed assumption can be a miscalculated gesture that may offend some people. When that wasn’t the speaker’s intention at all.

A. White, an award winning former librarian, who is also a long time member of Romantic Time and Publisher's Weekly. A. White has been writing for over fifteen years. She took classes in creative writing in college, specializing in ancient myths and legends. and later at a local community center while living in Chicago. In college she won the national contest to verbally list every country in the world, it's capital and ingenious language. Her works are mainly horror, fantasy, extreme, and sci-fi as well as, as some may says, "the truly strange predicament and puzzling." Books that I've written are "Clash with the Immortals, and eleven others which are part of the "Unholy Pursuit saga,". She has been working on the Chronicles since 2007. She wished to complete them all before introducing them to public so the readers wouldn't have to for the continuation to be written. The ideas of the book come from classic literature such as whose work greatly influence the world world such as Homer, Sophocles, Herodotus, Euripides, Socrates, Hippocrates, Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle and many more. The "Book of Enoch" influenced the usage of Azazael as a main character and love interest. I created the primary main character from the Chronicle of Saints. I wanted to show them as real flesh and blood with thoughts, desires and yearning as any human. Not as they are so often depicted. So I created one of my own to show her as a real human that everyone can relate to.

I can’t imagine what this must be like for the deaf and hearing umpaired. I hope they have someone to listen for them.

    • In all relative normal routine, it’s difficult enough for those suffering these impairments. No, she isn’t alone, her family and friends are shopping for her. I hope it’s the case with others like her.

Hello, thanks for thinking of how this is affecting those who read lips. We are adjusting. That’s genuinely thoughtful of you. Keep up writing.

    • You’re welcome.

It came to mind because oftentimes deaf or hard of hearing people’s problems are overlooked because they often do not ‘look’ handicapped. People fails to realize there’s an underlying problem responsible for their hearing loss.
