Are you a pessimistic or a realistic person. A pessimistic person is one who sees negativity in every situation. Pessimism is a negative or depressive mental attitude in which an undesirable outcome is anticipated from a given situation. Whether that be the case or not.Pessimists tend to focus on the negatives of life in general.
A realistic person may sometimes be accused of being a a pessimistic person whereas they evaluate by life experiences rather than preconceived notions. A realistic person is merely someone who view or evaluate a situation from all sides. Look equally at the pros and cons before drawing a conclusion.
Oftentimes life situations create what’s labelled as pessimistic people. For example; if an ethnic minority person is constantly denied opportunities and eventually develop a callous attitude toward life then that’s not a a pessimistic person. That’s one being realistic but too often people call this Pessimism.
One of the first philosphers to approach pessimism was Hegesias of Cyrene, a Cyrenaic philosopher, the Cyrenaics forming one of the earliest Socratic schools of philosophy. He argued that happiness is impossible to achieve and maintain, and that the goal of life was the avoidance of pain and sorrow.
