Benjamin Franklin once said: “Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.
“Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will not have neither nor do they deserve either one.”
This is an example of how wording changed over the years. But the meaning hasn’t. It still means if you aren’t willing to speak up and act when you see an injustice the security you believe you gain won’t last. Franklin is saying it’s an illusion which you will soon learn it to be.
