Greenwood on Fire

The massacre and destruction of Greenwood, the Black community of Tulsa, took place over two days, May 31-June 1, in 1921. President Joe Biden Declares Day Of Remembrance On 100th Anniversary Of Tulsa Race Massacre. Today.

President Joe Biden speaks during the National Memorial Day Observance at the Memorial Amphitheater in Arlington National Cemetery, Monday, May 31, 2021, in Arlington, Va.

President Joe Biden also declared a Day of Remembrance on Monday to mark the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race massacre, an event that left as many Black Americans killed and nearly 10,000 homeless.

Biden is he first president to visit the site of the massarce. He’ s visiting Tulsa on Tuesday, today where he delivered remarks and tour the Greenwood Cultural Center and meet with surviving members of the community.

“Today, on this solemn centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre, I call on the American people to reflect on the deep roots of racial terror in our Nation and recommit to the work of rooting out systemic racism across our country,” Biden said in the declaration.

Before the Tulsa Race Massacre, Greenwood was a thriving Black community that had grown into a proud economic and cultural hub. At its center was Greenwood Avenue, commonly known as Black Wall Street. Many of Greenwood’s 10,000 residents were Black sharecroppers who fled racial violence after the Civil War.The descendants of victims, and to this Nation that we will never forget. We honor the legacy of the Greenwood community, and of Black Wall Street, by reaffirming our commitment to advance racial justice through the whole of our government, and working to root out systemic racism from our laws, our policies, and our hearts.”

The massacre and destruction of Greenwood, the Black community of Tulsa, took place over two days, May 31-June 1, in 1921.

One hundred years ago, today, a violent white supremacist mob raided, firebombed, and destroyed approximately 35 square blocks of the thriving Black neighborhood of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Families and children were murdered in cold blood. Homes, businesses, and churches were burned. In all, as many as 300 Black Americans lost their lives, and nearly 10,000 were left destitute and homeless. Many left and never returned. Today is centennial of the Tulsa Race Massacre. And it’s so sad we as a nation is still dealing with systemic racism across our country.

Remember Red Summer occurred a few years earlier.

Much like Red Summer, some WWI African American vets who had just come back from war, fighting in Europe, France, and were now under attack at home. Some dressed in their uniform to meet the mob and some were gunned down while nearly all had there homes burnt to the ground.

Some of the mob who murdered and plundered were in uniform as well as they were official LEOs of Tulsa and some were soldiers in the Oklahoma National Guard. That is who did the most damage. The soldiers were holding off the citizens but their small number, they couldn’t withstand against the LEOs of Tulsa and who were soldiers in the Oklahoma National Guard.

Greenwood is the most famous of such events but there were many more. Greenwood was one of the deadliest and most devastating racial massacres in American history — as well as one of the least known. There’s another one, it’s much smaller but located in Florida called Rosewood.

She took classes in creative writing in college, specializing in ancient myths and legends. and later at a local community center while living in Chicago. In college she won the national contest to verbally list every country in the world, it's capital and ingenious language. Her works are mainly horror, fantasy, extreme, and sci-fi as well as, as some may says, "the truly strange predicament and puzzling." Books that I've written are "Clash with the Immortals, and eleven others which are part of the "Unholy Pursuit saga,". She has been working on the Chronicles since 2007. She wished to complete them all before introducing them to public so the readers wouldn't have to for the continuation to be written. The ideas of the book come from classic literature such as whose work greatly influence the world world such as Homer, Sophocles, Herodotus, Euripides, Socrates, Hippocrates, Aristophanes, Plato, Aristotle and many more. The "Book of Enoch" influenced the usage of Azazael as a main character and love interest. I created the primary main character from the Chronicle of Saints. I wanted to show them as real flesh and blood with thoughts, desires and yearning as any human. Not as they are so often depicted. So I created one of my own to show her as a real human that everyone can relate to.

This is so disturbing. At least it’s finally being called a massacre. I never understood how the death of 300 people and destruction of their homes were a riot. And to make it all worst, this isn’t taught in school. The only reason I know about it is I had an unconventional high school history. teacher.
