I came across this article some time ago and thought it would be a good time to post it. I noticed far too many people have idea how to relate to a disabled person. All it takes is common sense. Relate to them the same as an able-bodied person but respect their limitations. But sadly and morally wrong, too often people abuse them for these limitations.
Many of them are actually just as smart or smarter than Steven Hawking. Society would know this if people really took the time to talk to them. The only ones we see and accept are those whose families are rolling in wealth to provide therapy that services a less fortune family can not. It’s a pity we are in the 21st century but has dragged an 18th & 19th century mentality into it.
Whether a disability is visible or not has no bearing on how it affects the individual and that is one of the ignorant rationalization of defending oppression of the disabled.
